January is coming to an end and with this being the last week of the month I am going to take a look at five stories from this week.
5. I have to start off with saying happy birthday to my favorite guy Mr. Justin Timberlake who turns 33 today. I get to see him on his 20/20 Experience tour in August and I can't wait! Happy birthday Justin.
4. The Grammy's were this past Sunday and they were..... OK. Sadly the biggest story that came out of the night was the hat that Pharrell William's wore. His big brown hat caused many tweets from people comparing it to the Smokey the bear hat, Arby's hat, and a cowboy hat. Other than that people were all about the performance by Imagine Dragons and Kendrick Lamar which I thought was good but not amazing. Hope next year the show is better.
3. Justin Bieber was all over the news this week for continuing to not care about anything. This kid just seems to get in trouble everywhere he goes and it is starting to tick everyone off. A petition has started to have Justin deported back to Canada and kicked out of the country for good. I honestly think nothing will happen to him because money talks and he has a crap ton of it. Until something horrible happens to this kid or someone around him he will continue being a jackass. Let's hope he changes soon.
2. Everywhere you look these days their is some kind of 90's reunion happening. This week we got an amazing "Full House" reunion on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon". This isn't the only "Full House" reunion going down these days, the guys are also staring in a Superbowl commercial that is set to air this weekend. Because of these sightings people are thinking a bigger reunion might be on the horizon.Check out the video of the Late Night Full House reunion in case you missed it. Another exciting reunion is happening with the "Seinfeld" cast! This picture >>>>> was released a few weeks ago and the internet was a buzz with the possibilities of a reunion. Well now Jerry Seinfeld has told us that yes their will be a reunion of sorts though nothing major. Larry David (the creator of the show) was involved with the reunion along with other cast members and they shot in other locations besides the famous diner. He also said that the reunion was not for a commercial. Personally I am very excited to see what exactly the project is and if it leads to any other Seinfeld projects.
1. The biggest story of the week has to go to the Superbowl which goes down this weekend between two amazing teams, the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos. I think it is going to be an amazing game. Even more exciting than the game is this years half time show which will feature Bruno Mars and special guest The Red Hot Chili Peppers! Being a fan of Bruno and the Chili Peppers and I am very excited to see this performance. I think they are going to rock the house. Next week I will do a full recap of how the game and half time go. Hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys the game!
A few weeks ago I went to see the newest Martin Scorsese film "The Wolf of Wall Street" and even though I liked the movie over all I left the theater feeling like it was all a bit much. The fact that I was sitting next to my aunt and uncle during the film (which I would not have done had I known how the movie was going to be) didn't help. I think the fact that I left feeling like the movie was a bit much was exactly what Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio wanted me to be feeling. The movie is based off the true story of a man named Jordan Belfort who goes basically from rags to riches by working in the stock market and maybe not doing everything in the most legal way. It shows how someone who becomes so idolized by his co-workers and has an extreme amount of money can go a little crazy. Of coarse it takes more that just those two things to make the movie a tale of an extreme life you have to add lots of drugs, many illegal activities, a crazy amount of sex, and a record number of f-bombs (the movie has 506 f-bombs in it's 3 hour time span). I have never seen so much vagina in a film that's for sure. Even though a bit extreme I feel like the story was good and the acting was really good. Leo plays an excellent crazy person with lots of power (as he usually does) and Jonah Hill is amazing and used his usual dry humor to keep the audience laughing. One of my favorite performances in the movie was from newcomer Margot Robbie who is from Australia though you wouldn't know from her Jersey accent in the movie. Being a younger actor it was very impressive to see her hold her own to Leo and play such a powerful character. All in all I say see the movie (just not with your parents or aunts or uncles and really not grandparents) and be prepared to see a lot of sex, drugs, and hear a lot of bad language.
It is that amazing time of year again....... award season! This is the time where we get to see the best of the best in the world of acting come together and celebrate another year of amazing performances. This year has been a little more up in the air than last year as far as a favorite in each category so I am going to give my predictions on who I think will be winning tomorrow night.
Drama
For best film drama I am thinking it is a toss up between "Gravity" with the amazing Sandra Bullock and the Tom Hanks film "Captain Phillips" with the possibility of "12 Years a Slave" taking the honor. As far as best actress goes I am saying Sandra Bullock will take it for her work in "Gravity". There are a lot of great names and performances in the best actor category but personally I will be rooting for Matthew McConaughey for his performance in "Dallas Buyers Club".
Comedy or Musical
I can honestly say for best film in the comedy or musical category I don't know who will win. All of the movies in the category have been getting such high praise that I could see any of them taking top honors. For best actress in a comedy or musical I think the legendary Meryl Streep will take it for her work in "August: Osage County". Best actor is another one where I feel anyone could take it and personally I would be happy with any of them winning.
Best animated feature hands down will go to Disney's "Frozen" and that will be the case for this whole award season. I think best drama series will go to "Breaking Bad" with Bryan Cranston winning best actor for the show as well. I think Modern Family will take best comedy series for another year.
This year we get to see the lovely and hilarious duo of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey host again which means almost everyone will walk away going that was a good show. These two were so funny and did such a good job last year hosting the Golden Globes a lot of people were throwing their name out there for hosting duties at the Oscars. All in all I think it is going to be a great night and a good show and I can't wait to see who wins!
The hit kids movie of the holiday season hands down has to go to the Disney movie "Frozen". Over the holiday break my family and I took the time to see the film and I must say we all agreed it was a fantastic film. The movie revolves around two princess sisters, Elsa and Anna of Arendelle and how their differences tear them apart but ultimately bring them back together. Princess Elsa has magical powers where she can create snow and ice using her hands while Anna does not have these powers. After a horrible accident Elsa is told at a young age to tell no one about these powers, including her sister, because they could get out of control and possibly cause harm. When the girls grow up and finally reunite Anna finds out Elsa's secret which causes Elsa to become so upset that she runs away and loses control making Arendelle go into an eternal winter. The rest of the movie takes us on Anna's journey to make things right with her sister and bring summer back to Arendelle. I have to say I feel like this movie was a little more musical than some Disney movies (which is saying something since most Disney movies are known for their music) but the music was great. I recommend anyone with kids to go see this movie and you will not regret it. To prove my point, this movie came out around Thanksgiving and was just number one at the box office this past weekend. I will say without a doubt this movie will be nominated for best animated film at the Oscars and will win the prize (as Disney movies usually do). I can't wait till it comes out on DVD so my family can watch it again. To give you a sneak peek at how cute and funny this movie is along with the great songs I want you to check out two of my favorite scenes from the movie. Here is the adorable snowman Olaf singing about how much he loves summer.
And here is the amazing Idina Menzel (who does the voice of Elsa) singing the song "Let it Go" which is getting a lot of buzz. Enjoy! (and go see "Frozen")
This crazy year of 2013 is coming to an end and there have been many unbelievable moments and people in it. We have had great music, fun movies, and maybe a little to much twerking! I am going to recap some of my favorite (and some of the most popular) people, music, movies, and television moments of this year.
13. "New Girl' (more importantly the amazing kiss between Nick and Jess). Last year the fantastic comedy "New Girl" made my list of the top 12 things of 2012 and this year it is one of my favorite things again. This year we finally got to see the sexually tension between main characters Nick and Jess come to a head when there shared a kiss. Most people that saw the episode I feel left feeling the same way as me where it kind of took your breath away. Love this show and this on screen couple.
12. Ben Affleck. Mr. Affleck started the year off a buzz with him being the a big winner during award season for his film "Argo" which ended up taking home best picture at the Academy Awards. After that win I think most people looked at Ben not just as the ok actor who made the mistake of making "Gigli' with J. Lo but as a man of Hollywood who directs amazing films. Once the hype of that win died down we all got the big news that Ben will be playing the new Batman in the new Batman/Superman movie. The internet had a giant freak out with that news but I think most are excepting it. I am sure he will do a good job.
11. Selfies!!! 2013 was by far the biggest year for the selfie. Everywhere you went someone was taking a picture of them self on their phone. Celebs were the biggest fans of the selfie and were posting pics of themselves all the time. One celeb who did this the most was Ms. Kim Kardasian. This gem on the left was a greatly discussed selfie. She took this after having her daughter North and it was the first glimpse we got into Kim's post baby body look. There were many mixed opinions about this pic with some saying good for her and other saying it was a bit much. Personally I was a little in the middle. Good for her for getting her body "kind of" back after baby but holy moly she has a giant butt! But hey if you got it, flaunt it they say.
10. Sandra Bullock. This has been a good year for Sandy (as her friends call her). After taking a little time off to deal with her divorce from ex-husband Jesse James and to take care of her new son Louis she made a comeback in 2013. She came out in two great movies "The Heat" and "Gravity". "The Heat" was one of the funniest movies of the year and "Gravity" is receiving a lot of award season buzz at the moment with her being nominated for a Golden Globe. She was also called entertainer of the year by Entertainment Weekly. All in all I would say she has made quite the come back. Not like any of us doubted her.
9. "Nashville". One of the greatest new dramas on TV is the show "Nashville". The lead actors, Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere, do a fantastic job portraying two country superstars whose personal lives are always a little out of control. On top of having great acting, amazing story lines, and a very good looking cast they also sing. Every episode we get to hear new and original songs from the cast that are not only doing well on the show but also on the carts with multiple albums. This show just keeps getting better and better so I see it being around for awhile.
8. The sudden passings of Cory Monteith and Paul Walker. Every year the entertainment community looses people that really hurts everyone, for example this year we lost the great James Gandolfini. Being in my mid 20's though it is a rare occurrence when the people we loose greatly affect my generation though, sadly this year was different. Over the summer we lost "Glee's" Cory Monteith due to a drug overdose. This shocked many who thought the actor was doing well with his drug issues. One of the worst parts of losing Cory was having to watch his girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele carry on without him. I think all of out hearts broke for her. Then right after Thanksgiving we lost "Fast and Furious" star Paul Walker due to a horrible car accident. Paul was a very private person and it wasn't till after his death that I (and many others) learned about what an amazing man and activist he was when he wasn't filming movies. Both of these deaths had a very big affect on me and many others. They will both be missed greatly.
7. Miley Cyrus. Though not one of my favorite topics this year their is no denying that Miley was everywhere this year and was a hot topic all the time. From her hair cut to her break up to the foam finger and her wrecking ball Miley is all people could talk about. Thanks to Miley we all got to figure out what "twerking" was (yay for us) and sadly many people started to do it. This girl is all about shock value these days and we never know what is coming next from her. Chances are you will be talking about her tomorrow since she is performing tonight in Times Square. I just hope she takes a little bit of a chill pill in 2014.
6. "Game of Thrones" and "Breaking Bad". Sadly (I know I am going to be judged for this) I am not one of the millions of people who watch "Game of Thrones" or "Breaking Bad" but these two shows were very big topics this year. Everyone was talking about these two shows especially the red wedding episode of "Game of Thrones" and the series ending of "Breaking Bad". Luckily with the internet and wonders like Netflix I will be able to catch up and binge watch these shows and then I will be like everyone else.
5. This was the year of the celebrity baby (what am I talking about most years there are big celeb baby stories). It seemed like everyone and their mom was having a baby in Hollywood in 2013 and they all wanted to name their baby something unique. Fergie and Josh gave us Axl Jack, Kristen and Dax gave us Lincoln Bell and Jessica Simpson had son Ace Knute. One of the most talked about names came from (you guessed it) Kim and Kanye who named their little girl North West. I remember when I heard this news I could not believe it but I most admit the name Nori has grown on me. By far my favorite new arrival this year was Prince George! Who doesn't love a new royal, especially one as cute as George. I think everyone in the world is rooting for William and Kate so to see them start a family was such a joy. With many more pregnant celebs I am sure 2014 will be full of even more fun babies and baby names.
4. Blurred Lines. Who this year didn't jam out to Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines?? Not many I would imagine because that song was everywhere. This song was so catchy and just made you want to dance. I will admit when the whole VMA Miley and Robin performance happened I was a bit like, "really this is kind of making the song horrible" but once I got over that I went right back to loving it.
3. Jennifer Lawrence. This year we all got to fall in love with the amazingly talented and hilarious Jennifer Lawrence. From seeing her performance in "Silver Linings Playbook" to her first run in with Jack Nicholson at the Oscars to tripping on the Oscar stage and shaking it off like a boss she just seems to do no wrong. Now she is staring in the newly released film "American Hustle" which is getting her even more Oscar buzz. I see only amazing things in this girls future.
2. At times in 2013 it seemed more like 1998. This year brought us a new Backstreet Boy album, "The Package Tour" which included Boys to Men, 98 degrees, and New Kids on the Block, and most importantly two very awesome reunions. In the beginning of the year at the Superbowl Beyonce was the half time act and we got to see the reunion of Destiny's Child and I will have to say it was awesome. The best reunion/ 90s moment this year was the mini reunion of N'SYNC. For me that two minute moment was 10 years in the making. The guys got together at the VMA's during Justin Timberlake's 15 minute long performance that he did before he recieved the video vangaurd award. Even though the boys were only together for about two minutes it was one of the best things I saw all year. I can only hope 2014 brings us more N'SYNC.
1. Justin Timberlake. I am sure everyone knew that Justin would be my number one from 2013 but how could you blame me. This man has put out two albums (The 20/20 Experience part 1 and 2), two movies ("Runner Runner" and "Inside Llewyn Davis"), and two tours. I am pretty sure he hasn't slept much in 2013 and I am thankful for it because he has been nothing but pure entertainment. After being gone from music for multiple years he came back and showed everyone how he hasn't missed a beat. Personally I think he is a genius and can only see him continuing to take over the world.
Well their is my top 13 or 2013 and as I publish this I have a little over an hour left in the year. 2013 was great and I can't wait to see what 2014 will bring. Hopefully I will only continue to grow Jami Said What?! and continue doing what I love. Happy New Year to all, see you in 2014!
I was truly hoping I would not have to report on any more young beautiful actors losing their lives in 2013 but sadly today the world lost "Fast and Furious" actor Paul Walker ironically in a car accident. The actor got into the accident and passed away around 3:30 this afternoon actually down the street from where I live in Santa Clarita, California. He was in a car with one other person when they collided. They reportedly hit a light pole and a tree which then lead the car to explode into flames. Both people in the car passed away. My thoughts are with his family and friends and especially to his little girl who has now lost her father so close to Christmas. Paul was 40 years old. He will be greatly missed.
This week People magazine announced that the title of sexiest man alive in 2013 goes to Maroon 5 rocker and front man Adam Levine. Now most people seem to be ok with the choice and even though I agree that at time Mr. Levine can be very dreamy I feel like their are a few other men that could have also received this title.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt would have been a great choice. In 2012 this actor was everywhere with three movies coming out and this year he debuted as an director and writer along with actor in his directorial debut of the movie "Don Jon". He isn't exactly the most popular choice for 2013 but I feel like we have all seen him grow from a child actor to this amazing (and beautiful) man and he would have made a great sexiest man alive.
With the crazy success and buzz around the show "Breaking Bad" star Aaron Paul would have also been a great choice for the title. Everyone this year was all about the final season of the series "Breaking Bad" and what is sexier than a great actor who also plays a bad boy?? This year has been great for him on a personal level too because he got married to his long time girlfriend Lauren Parsekian. Even though he didn't win the title this year I feel their is plenty of time for him to take it. I can't wait to see what comes next from this great actor.
Even though Ben Affleck won the sexiest man alive title back in 2002, after the year he has had (and last year) he kind of deserves it again. At the beginning of this year all anyone could talk about was Ben and his Academy Award winning movie "Argo". Once the hype of that moment cleared we all got the news that the next Batman would be played by Mr. Affleck as well. Though most people seemed to not be happy with this choice when they first heard about it, most movie goers seem to have accepted it and are getting excited to see where he takes the character. By far the sexiest quality Ben possesses is how amazing of a husband and father he is. We all got to see first hand the love his has for his family this year. I think with the great year he has had it looks like things will keep going up for him.
If you were one of the millions who saw the newest "Superman" movie this year you too were probably drooling over Henry Cavill. Everyone seemed to love the choice of actor for the character and couldn't help but love how handsome he is. I think the more we see Henry the more likely it will be that in the next few years he will probably take the sexiest man title. I am just going to take a moment and look at him and please feel free to join........
My top pick for who I feel should have received the title (no surprise here if you have been following my blog) is Mr. Justin Timberlake! Who has has a better year than this guy. With the albums, movies, and tours he has been in the spotlight all year. Debuting his new look this year as well has only made him look more mature and sexier (which I didn't know was possible). If Justin didn't get the award this year I don't know what People mag is waiting for because if he gets any hotter I don't know if millions of women will be able to handle it.
