The Best and The Worst of the 2013 VMA's

What was hot and not at the VMA's

Last night marked the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards and as with every year the highlight was the live performances given by today's hottest artist. There were eight different performances last night and some were great, one was (let's just say it) horrible and two other were ehh. Personally out of all of the performances last night I felt Drake and Kanye West did ok. I mean it was nothing special it was pretty much just a normal performance. Kanye was a shadow the whole time he performed so we didn't even really see the guy which isn't always a bad thing.

By far one of the most talked about performances from last night came from that little gem over there, yes Ms. Miley Cyrus. I am sorry but I know she claims to just be growing up and finding herself but she looks like she is just starving for attention. Before the show she spoke about having the torch passed to her in a sense from people like Madonna and Britney for being outrageous on the VMA's. I am sorry but even though Madonna and Britney don't necessarily have the best voices around they are born entertainers and they are great at what they do. If anyone is to bring up when Christina went through her "dirty" phase let's all remind ourselves that not only does Christina perform but she has an amazing voice. Miley has neither of those qualities. She is a mediocre singer and her performance last night lacked any kind of substance. It left everyone who was watching feeling confused and just gross. I think ten years from now she is going to look back on this time in her life and think what the heck was I thinking. She says she is just growing up, but she sure looks immature to me.

Besides those performances the rest of the night they were pretty great. Lady Gaga opened the show last night with her new song "Applause" and was wonderful. She changed her look five times in almost five minutes which was fun to watch. She always puts on a spectacle and though this was more subdued than past performances it was still great to watch. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performed their song "Same Love" which actually won an award last night. While singing the song with vocalist Mary Lambert, Jennifer Hudson came out and sang along which was a nice touch to the performance. One of my favorite performers, Bruno Mars, performed his new single "Gorilla" last night which happens to be my favorite song off his newest album. Because of the content of the song many left that performance feeling a little like they had just shared an intimate moment with the singer but I thought the performance was amazing and really allowed Bruno's talent to shine. Katy Perry closed the show last night with a performance of her new song "Roar" outside by the Brooklyn bridge. She had a whole boxing theme going on and the overall performance was really good. It looks like this will be another hit for the singer.

By far the most exciting moment on the night was Justin Timberlake's performance for receiving the "Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award". He performed for around 15 minutes and sang a medley of literally every hit single he has had in his solo career. On top of that he proved all of us RIGHT and gave us an amazing (yet brief) N'SYNC reunion where literally everyone went crazy! They sang a few seconds of "Gone", "Girlfriend", and ended with a tribute to their 2000 VMA performance with their hit "Bye,Bye,Bye". Pure awesomeness is what it was basically. Justin also made sure to call out today's hot boy band One Direction by saying, "Let's show these young boys how to do it" before showing us their smooth dance moves that they still have ten years later. This then lead to the boys of One Direction to get booed when they received their award after the Justin performance. The night belonged to the men of N'SYNC for sure. If you missed the Justin Timberlake mini concert you need to check it out.
