"Lincoln" Review

My Review of "Lincoln"

"Lincoln" is the beautifully told story of Abraham Lincoln starting his second term in office while trying to pass the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery and put an end to the Civil War. Watching this man fight for something he so passionately believed in was inspiring. Though seeing the political parties so divided over something like race made me see that we might not have come as far as we thought we did since the days of President Lincoln. I will say even though this was a very good movie there were times in it where it was a little slow going and it felt like I was watching an old man sitting on a bench just telling me old stories about things, otherwise it was good.

Daniel Day-Lewis does an amazing job as Lincoln. Knowing what his normal voice sounds like and what he normally looks like it is crazy to see how this man transformed into President Lincoln. You feel that he believes everything is saying with every fiber of his being. I am sure his performance will earn him another well deserved Academy Award at this years Oscars.

President Lincolns wife is played by the extremely talented Sally Field. She can put so much emotion into a role and does so while playing Mary Todd Lincoln that you feel her pain and sadness from the hard things she endured in her life. Sally is nominated for best supporting actress for this years Oscars though she isn't favored right now. Many think Anne Hathaway will take home the honors.

Tommy Lee Jones does a great job at playing the republican congressional leader Thaddeus Stevens. He is such a key part of getting the 13 Amendment passed which makes him a main part of the movie and it's story line. Many have him favored to take home the Oscar for best supporting actor, though I think it will go to Christoph Waltz from "Django Unchained"

"Lincoln" is nominated for best picture at the Oscars and many think it might take home the big prize. Though some are starting to think "Argo" might get it now. We shall see who gets it.

Re-cap Of The SAG Awards

Fun At The SAG Awards

Last night there was some great moments and fashion at 19th annual SAG Awards. I had a couple favorite looks last night from the guys and the gals.

The usual guys looked handsome last night including Bradley Cooper and James Marsden who looked great in the classic suit and bow tie. Justin Timberlake decided to be a little different and wear a plaid suit and tie. He also debuted his new hair style which is one of his best so far. Everyone can agree that Jessica Chastain looked fantastic in red last night compared to her Golden Globe look. I loved Marion Cotillard, she was so simple and elegant. I loved her clean hair style and the fact that her dress had pockets.

One of the big color trends of the night was navy blue. I blame the rainy weather for the inspiration, but whatever it was I think the women looked stunning in the color. My favorite look of the night was Jennifer Lawrence. For a woman who has walking pneumonia and has been sick for a while now she still looked amazing.

Many of the awards given out last night were given to the favorites of the category like Daniel Day-Lewis winning for his performance in "Lincoln" while actresses like Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence one for there critically acclaimed performances as well. The cast of "Modern Family" rightfully won for best ensemble cast of a television comedy which was great since that show is by far one of the funniest on the air and each member of that cast plays an equal role to achieve that outcome. There were some surprises though like best performance of an ensemble cast of a drama series, I thought "Homeland" would take it since there is so much talent on that show and they seem to be a favorite these days but "Downton Abbey" took the honors instead. By far the biggest surprise for me of the night was who won best performance of a cast in a motion picture. I thought it could have gone to "Les Miserables" since there are so many amazing people in that movie, or "Lincoln" because I mean how do you beat Daniel Day-Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones, and Sally Field, or even "Silver Linings Playbook" due to there many actor Oscar nominations, but no I was wrong.

The honor went to the cast of "Argo"! This movie keeps taking home award after award and seems to be shocking everyone while doing so. Because of this win I am seriously thinking we might be seeing Ben Affleck in a few weeks excepting the award for best picture at the Oscars. I have also heard that even though Ben was not nominated for best director he might be a written in vote for the award. Could you imagine if he wins both that night. We shall see what happens. All I know is I really need to see "Argo" and I suggest you do the same.

Jimmy Kimmel Sucks

Matt Damon Gets His Revenge

Last night after 10 years of Jimmy Kimmel not having enough time for Matt Damon, Matt got to have his revenge on Mr. Kimmel and it was hilarious that was for sure.

Matt set out to prove that of coarse he could host the show better than Jimmy because he was fucking Matt Damon. He set off the show by replacing Jimmy's side kick Guillermo with his own Guillermo (played by Andy Garcia). Then he replaced Jimmy's band leader with rocker Sheryl Crow who went on to play a brand new song at the end of the show. For his monologue he brought in the legendary Robin Williams to do it for him. With the show starting off like that I knew it was going to be a pretty great show. There was even a cameo from Jimmy's "ex-lover" Ben Affleck who was behind the camera staying loyal to his man.

Matt than went on to bring out many famous faces (some of which had never been on Jimmy's show before). On one single couch he got Nicole Kidman, Gary Oldman, Amy Adams, Reese Witherspoon, and Demi Moore. They all got to sit around and take jabs at poor Jimmy as he sat tied up and gagged in a chair behind them. They even took the time to take a photo with him. Before Sheryl closed the show Matt interviewed Jimmy's real ex-girlfriend Sarah Silverman about how horrible Jimmy is. And fittingly at the very end of the show he ran out of time for Jimmy to say anything just as Jimmy has done to Matt for ten years. On the bright side Jimmy did get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today so things aren't to bad for the guy.

Busy Disney

New things coming from Disney

Disney has announced a couple new projects that we will be seeing in the next couple years, one of which isn't entirely new while others are something we have seen before. First we will talk about how there is going to be a "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" (and yes you read that 5)

The movie right now is set to have a July 10th, 2015 release date and yes Johnny Depp is returning to play his prized role of Captain Jack Sparrow. Right now there is no script but word is they have Jeff Nathanson (who has written other movies such as "Catch Me If You Can") writing the script for this adventure. Production of the movie is set for next year.

Another highly anticipated movie that is coming out the summer of 2015 from Disney is the new "Star Wars" movie. I think many have mixed feelings about Disney taking over the "Star Wars" franchise but I have faith in Disney. They are amazing at what they do so I am sure they will not disappoint. Will the movie make die-hard followers happy, who knows we shall see. I don't think George Lucas would have done this if he didn't believe in them to do it right.

And for all of you out there that have a soft spot for dinosaurs or has a child who does Disney is making a new animated film called "The Good Dinosaur". This movie is set to be released on May 30, 2014. The movie is about an outcast dinosaur who finds a friend in another outcast. I am sure it will be cute and make everyone who watches it smile because that is what Disney does.

I can not wait to see all of these movies. And I am sure will get some great stuff from Disney between now and 2015 as well.

New Sitcoms On The Way

Likely and Unlikely faces coming to TV

After being away from TV for a few months since he left SNL it is reported Andy Sandberg is set to star in a new sitcom on Fox. It is being created by the same guys who brought us the hilarious "Parks and Recreation" which stars fellow SNL alum Amy Poehler. It is supposedly going to be a cop based comedy set in New York City and Andy will be playing the lead detective on the show. Seeing Andy as a detective to me sounds interesting and I am sure he is going to be hilarious as he is in almost every thing he does. The new show still does not have a title and is set to come out some time this year, so look out for that.

On the bazaar side of things NBC is giving Jessica Simpson a sitcom that is going to semi biographical and loosely based on her life. The writers of the movie "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" and "Zookeeper" are the ones behind this new sitcom. As someone who grew up being a Jessica Simpson fan and even watching her reality show with her ex-husband Nick Lachey I can say I honestly want the best for her but I don't think this is it. Jessica is not a very good actor for 1 though she has an amazing voice and 2 those movies sucked and weren't even that funny so what makes us think this show would be any better. Right now I think they just have a deal to make a pilot and to see what happens from there but I don't think this show is really going to make it off the ground. Being pregnant and to soon be having 2 kids under 2 I think Jessica should really just be focusing on being the best mom she could be. If she wants to make some money she should do what she is good at and make another album.

Now on a lighter note there are three major birthdays today for three amazing women....

The amazing and legendary Betty White turns 91 today. This woman has had such an amazing career and is still going strong. I think we can all agree we want to see a 100th birthday celebration for this funny lady.

"New Girl" star Zooey Deschanel turns 33 today. If you are one of the few people out there that does not watch "New Girl" you need to check it out. Zooey is such a great actress and she just makes you smile and laugh. Happy Birthday to her.

Last but not least our wonderful first lady Mrs. Michelle Obama turns 49 today. I don't care if you like her or not you have to admit she looks great for her age. I am so thankful for the things this woman is doing to make the kids in this country more healthy and for bringing awareness to others about our military families. She is a beautiful person inside and out and I wish her too a happy birthday!

Justin Timberlakes new "Suit and Tie"

Justin Timberlakes new album

On Sunday night at midnight eastern time Justin Timberlake released his first single in almost 7 years. The song is called "Suit and Tie" and is featuring Jay-Z. I am not going to lie I stayed up to hear the new single and was disappointed at first. The beginning of the song is slow and I thought, "Wow this is what we have been all be waiting years for?" But then Justin brings up the tempo and gives us a catchy tune that was number #1 on itunes before Justin even woke up on Monday morning. I know the song is all over the radio and being loved by many, including myself.
When he released the single he also posted a letter to his fans explaining to us how is new album will be coming out sometime this year and will be titled "The 20/20 Experience". He seems very excited to be putting out music as I am sure most of us our excited to be getting new music. 2013 should be a great year for JT.

If you haven't heard the new song yet here is the link to his website where you can listen to it. Enjoy! http://countdown.justintimberlake.com/

Golden Globe Highlights

My Top Ten Golden Globes Moments

Last night we got to watch the 70th Annual Golden Globes and they did not disappoint. There were plenty of great, hilarious, weird and shocking moments that so many people are talking about today. If you happened to miss them here is my top ten list of my favorite moments of the night.

10. The fashion! The men all looked handsome as usual and the women were stunning. There were three major trends I noticed with the dresses of the evening, fishtails, very high "angie-slits" as they are being called (thanks Angelina Jolie for that one), and red. Many women were wearing red last night as seen here.

 9. Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman winning for their work in "Les Miserables". They both did such an amazing job on the movie and deserved the win. On top of that they both gave great speeches that showed us just how grateful they are to be doing what they are doing.

8. Adele winning for original song for "Skyfall". Now this amazing artist can add a Golden Globe to her massive amount of awards at home. She is so amazing and so down to earth. Her acceptance speech was so real and so funny. Being a mother myself I found it hilarious how she said she was really there just so she could have a night out with her girlfriend since they both just recently had babies. I would love to have a night out with this girl.

7. Christoph Waltz winning for his amazing performance in "Django Unchained". This is one of the movies I have gotten to see and his performance in it was so good. I have praised him before for his performance and now it is great to see him get an award for it.

6. A clean sweep for "Homeland". I have mentioned multiple times how much I am a fan of the Showtime series "Homeland" so it was great last night to see the show take home best television series drama, best actress drama (Claire Danes) and best actor drama (Damien Lewis). The show is so addicting and so good it deserved every award it got last night.

5. Jodie Fosters speech for her lifetime achievement award. She was very emotional, raw, and open during her speech. She touched on possibly leaving acting and coming out to us all about her sexuality. Many of the people in the room and around the country could not help but shed some tears as they watched her deliver this amazing speech.

4. The shocker of the night Mr. Ben Affleck who took home two awards last night. He won best director for his movie "Argo", which further proves why so many people feel like the academy snubbed him by not even nominating him in that category for the up coming Oscars. "Argo" also beat out "Lincoln" to take home best picture drama which pretty much no one saw coming. It is making everyone re-think who might take home best picture in a few weeks at the Academy Awards.

3. President Bill Clinton introducing the movie "Lincoln". You could tell no one in that room was expecting to see the President come on stage and when he did the room went crazy. He immediately got a standing ovation and very loud applause. He did a great job introducing the film and it was fitting to have him do it I felt. On top of that the jokes directly after from Tina and Amy were great. Amy called him "Mr. Hillary Clinton" and Tina called him "Bill Rodham Clinton". Both gave everyone a pretty good laugh.

2. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as hosts! They did such a good job I only wish we would have seen them more through out the night. They delivered some zingers that is for sure but they were all in good fun. They even sat in the crowd dressed up as different people at times which was pretty funny and unexpected. I would not mind seeing them do the job of hosting again.

1. Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell introducing best actress in a comedy or musical. They acted like they didn't know anything about any of the movies or actresses they were talking about and they were just riffing off of each other. It was fantastic to watch. People are already saying they would love to see these two host next year and I would second that notion for sure.

Hard Week for Britney

Double whammy for Britney Spears

Earlier this week we found out it was a good possibility that the television show "The X-Factor" was going to be giving Ms. Britney Spears the boot and instead of waiting for them to do so Britney decided to quit before they had their chance to make a move. She says she will now be heading into the studio to obviously work on a new album.

On top of quitting her job she has just announced that her and her fiance of a year Jason Trawick are indeed splitting up and going their separate ways. Supposedly the break up was mutual and actually very friendly (which is weird, how often do you ever hear that one) and that they will continue to be friends but have decided they should no longer be engaged or together. Britney has been through so much over the past decade I just wish all the best for her and that everything works out the way she wants it to. I can't wait to see and hear what catchy album and tune she comes out with next.

Friday Top Five

Top Five Celeb Stories of the Week

5. Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte is getting his own reality show in the E! Newtork. The show is set to debut in April. So yay for all of us women that had such a fun time seeing him during the Olympics now we get to see this hottie all the time.

4. After weeks of people saying Britney was about to let go from the X-Factor she has decided to call it quits herself. So no more Britney on TV every week. Britney has said it is now time to go back to the studio so I am sure we will be getting more new music to add to her new single with Will.I.Am that was recently released.

3. Oh say it ain't so.... this week we saw the end to the relationship of Taylor Swift and Harry Styles, otherwise known as Haylor. The had an amazing new years which lead to a nice island getaway where supposedly they had a major fight. Once this happened Taylor left and Harry stayed and now they have called it quits according to many sources. I think the best part of this whole thing is earlier this week Taylor tweeted that she was heading into the studio. What a shocker that she is recording a song at this very moment. All she needs is to have two more relationships and we will all get a new record from her.

2. We found out two major acts are making a come back Destiny's Child and Justin Timberlake. Destiny's Child is coming out with a new single and rumors are they might all come together to preform with Beyonce during the Super Bowl halftime show this year.

Justin Timberlake also announced he is making his come back to music. He has all of fans on pins and needles following a countdown that leads us to Sunday. What he will do on Sunday is not clear. Some think he will be announcing more details about his upcoming album and some think he is actually going to release an album next week. We shall see what happens.

1. We finally got to learn who the official nominees are for the 85th Academy Awards. We have 9 best picture nominations, a best actress category with the oldest and youngest nominees ever, And some pretty upset directors who got snubbed pretty bad. It is looking like it is going to be an interesting Oscars.

On top of all of this don't forget to tune in to NBC for the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night. It is looking like it is going to be hilarious this year with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler taking on the job of hosting. Check out the promos they look great. http://www.goldenglobes.org/2012/12/it-will-be-a-glamorous-night/

New Music From JT?

New Justin Timberlake Album?

For a couple years now we have gotten to see a new side to Justin Timberlake otherwise known as the acting JT, but what ever happened to the singer? I know many have thought about when and if he will ever put out a new album out again and when people have asked him he has said as for right now he is happy doing movies but music will always be his first love. I was actually having this conversation yesterday with my husband about how with Justin being happy and married and not having any heartbreak to create a "Cry me a River" or "What goes around comes around" maybe he will just stick to making films. Well he literally just released a tease shall I say to give us all hope that in a few months we will yet again be hearing beautiful and catchy music coming from this amazing artist. I can not tell you how excited and happy I am that this day has come. (And yes if you haven't caught on I am a big JT fan) Check out this link http://tmbr.lk/imready, watch the clip and get ready to see what happens next!

Oscars Predictions

Oscar nomination predictions

Tomorrow we will be hearing Seth McFarlane and Emma Stone announce the coveted nominations for the 85th Academy Awards. Before they do this I figured I would make some predictions for the movies I think will be nominated for Best Picture based on the buzz surrounding so many great movies over the past year, and we shall see how many I got right.

First we have the given "Les Miserables". It has such a dramatic story line and is shot with such beauty I do not see the Academy not nominating this film. With such an outstanding cast I would not be surprised to see Hugh Jackman or Anne Hathaway get nominations for their acting as well.

Steven Spielberg is such a great movie maker that just seeing the preview of the movie you are taken back in time and to a different place. The movie looks like it does a great job telling the story of Lincoln. I could see Daniel Day Lewis being nominated and maybe even winning another Oscar.

"Django Unchained" has brought so many emotions and opinions from everyone that I see the academy paying attention to this Tarantino gem. Though the movie is bloody and violent the story is good and you go on a wild ride watching it unfold. I can see Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio getting possible actor nominations.

This Ben Affleck directed film has been getting nothing but praise from what I have seen. Being based off a true story and being told very well I think "Argo" could be nominated as well for best picture. Ben Affleck might even get a best director nod.

"Zero Dark Thirty" takes us behind what it was like to be looking for and finding Osama Bin Laden which as American's I think we all are interested in to some extent. The way it is shot and with the characters in it, it gives me a "Homeland" vibe which is always good. With the a story line like this I see why people are saying it will be nominated for an Oscar. Especially being directed and written by the same people who won best picture in 2010 with "The Hurt Locker" I can see why they might get gold again.

I feel like the academy always likes to throw in a picture that is not as well known and a little more outside the box. When "Moonrise Kingdom" came out there was quite a buzz about it and they have such an all star  cast I can see how it could be a good movie. We will see if the academy thinks this movie is best picture worthy.

Finally we have "Silver Linings Playbook", from the previews this movie didn't seem like it would do to well but many are praising it and saying it is great. I keep hearing that Jennifer Lawrence steals the movie and is amazing in it. Because of all the buzz around it I think it too might be nominated for best picture.

Mind you out of all of these movies I have only seen "Django Unchained", but after tomorrow when we know who the actual best pictures nominees are I will do what I do every year and I will try to see as many of the films as I can so I can have a better opinion on which film I think should take home the coveted trophy on the night of February 24th. I will be back tomorrow to announce who the nominees are.
